Texas Crypto Miners Face Inquiry From Warren Over Power Use
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and a group of Democrat lawmakers asked the Electric Reliability Council of Texas to disclose details on power usage and emissions from cryptocurrency miners in the state and how any expansion of those operations would impact energy bills for consumers. They also asked for details on how much the miners were paid to scale back their power usage during high-demand periods, which have tested the resiliency of the Texas power grid in recent years.
