CFTC Market Advisory Committee Public Meeting: Climate Risk

Today, March 8, the CFTC’s Market Advisory Committee held its first public meeting of 2023 to discuss a range of topics, including climate-related risk. In 2020, the MRAC’s Climate-Related Market Risk Subcommittee released a report “Managing Climate Risk in the U.S. Financial System,” which presented fifty-three recommendations. In June of last year, the Commission hosted a convening on voluntary carbon markets and solicited public comment on potential questions related to climate risk. Next steps will be to explore the integrity, accountability, and quality of carbon offsets and related derivatives; the role of registries; fraud enforcement actions; and calls for a working group to study these issues.
