Overview
With the development of the energy industry’s transition with more emphasis on renewable power generation, the need for large scale battery storage assets is growing rapidly. Many of our member companies are deploying battery storage assets as part of their portfolio, introducing challenging new risks for the risk function to address.
So, as we consider the future outlook for power markets, battery storage assets with their unique characteristics will likely be a big part of the picture for risk managers.
What development scenarios will play-out for battery storage over time? Risk officers must tackle the risk management challenges that are associated with these future scenarios.
Current Challenges being Discussed
Members clearly would like to explore many aspects of these new risks. Just to mention a few:
How can we better understand complex battery storage risks? Long term vs. short term?
Might we explore new quantitative approaches that advance practices for measuring these risks? Could scenario-based risk methods be an option for the risk manager?
Are there new technology solutions being developed?
Currently, are there practical approaches (instruments) to effective hedging battery storage risks?
How might the CCRO advance transparency into the current value of forward battery-based transactions?
