ADVANCING PRACTICES FOR RISK PROFESSIONALS IN THE ENERGY INDUSTRY

Financial Liquidity Risk Management

In 2024, several CCRO initiatives identified financial liquidity risk in the global energy industry as a critical topic that merits a CCRO working group of its own. By November, at our Madrid meeting, we had our first deep dive into the many challenges energy risk professionals face in this critical area of risk management. This new group of energy risk and finance professionals is making much progress across several next steps identified through discussion threads. These threads have become ever more prominent in our continuing dialog together…

Key Discussion Threads for the group to Pursue in 2025:

  1. Create a primer on noteworthy case examples of liquidity risks and their impact [Draft here…]

  2. Explore leading practices for analytic methods that forecast margins [explore methods and current solutions]

  3. Build CCRO interaction with Exchanges and ISOs to advance related best practices [Event planned for May 20-21]

  4. Re-open the CCRO [market clearing white paper] as a basis to build from

  5. Host a CCRO [survey of current liquidity risk practices] in energy trading businesses. This will help us establish a basis for gap analysis to help guide our initiative going forward.

  6. The scope should include various transaction types and trade platforms

  7. Group participation should include all industry segments possible

  8. Design and depth of the deliverable document(s)

We hope you will join us as a partner as we develop leading practices for managing financial liquidity risks across the energy industry. Help us shape our deliverables in this area so that we have the most constructive impact and advance our industry’s practices. We welcome newcomers.
